Savannah Cat

A Savannah cat is very exotic looking and is a still relatively new breed. They are a rather large cat that can reach up to 30 pounds. Because the are cross bred between domestic cats and the African Serval, their appearance is varied. They generally have a tan or dark cream base coat with either black or brown spots or marble patterning. Generally Savannah cats are long in the legs and longer in the face and with a long neck. They have a shorter tail that is ringed with black stripe and tipped with black. Their eyes, usually blue as a Savannah kitten and green as and adult, have “tear streak” markings. These are to help reduce glare from the sunlight, which aids them in hunting.

Savannah cats are friendly and assertive. They like to play with their human companions. Sometimes they like other animals but at other times will hide or hiss an growl. Exposure to other animals is likely the key to how they react as mature kittens and cats, which is a good reason to buy your cat from a reputable breeder.

Intelligence is another quality of the Savannah cat. They learn tricks, are able to walk on a leash, and are very good at getting into places they shouldn’t like cupboards and storage compartments. For this reason, it may be necessary to invest in some child locks to keep your cat safe from harmful chemicals. Savannah cats love water and will play with water dripping from taps or even their own water bowls. Some even like bathing or showers.

A Savannah feral cat is not uncommon because Savannah cats are very capable of taking care of themselves. Because their natural hunting instincts often remain intact, they make excellent providers for colonies of feral cats.

When looking for Savannah cats and kittens for sale, it is best to look for reputable Savannah cat breeders. While you may occasionally find Savannah cats for sale in a pet store, breeders are more likely to give them the care that they need. Because of their rarity and the work that goes into cross breeding this cat, you are very unlikely to find cheap Savanna cats for sale anywhere, but if you do, use caution. Make sure they have been properly cared for and that the breeder is able to give you all the information that you need about history and lineage. Through Savannah cat breeders you are also likely to fin F1 Savannah cats for sale, F2 Savannah male cats for sale, and Savannah lynx jungle cats for sale. These varieties may cost a lot more but may have the qualities that you are looking for.
