Electronic cat doors are a great option for those who are concerned about other cats or animals getting into the house. An electronic cat door runs on batteries. You put a collar key on your pet’s collar and the door will open for your cat when he or she approaches the door. This is also a wonderful choice for people who have more than one pet and only one of them is allowed to go outside. This could be for health or for safety reasons, but the electronic door gives you more options. A magnetic cat door works similar to the electronic cat door, using a key on a cat’s collar, but does not use batteries.

An infra red cat door is the most technologically advanced of cat doors. This type of cat door limits who can come in, but not who can go out. Your cat wears a battery powered infra red key on its collar, which will open the door when it gets between six inches to two feet from the door, depending on how bright the sun is. While an RFID cat door seems to be the next logical step, anything that has been invented has not been perfected. Technology gets closer every day, but it is not quite there yet.
